On the hunt for a new TV? Looking for one that is not only a work of art but blends with your furniture?
The Samsung SERIF TV may be just what you are looking for in a new HDTV.
After being introduced in Europe in 2015, conversely, Samsung announced the SERIF TV’s arrival in the U.S. in August 2016. It’s in the forefront of the news again because the SERIF TV has been selected by Oprah Winfrey and the editors of O, The Oprah Magazine as one of Oprah Winfrey’s Favorite Things for the 2016 holiday season.
What is SERIF TV?
Samsung collaborated with the acclaimed Parisian design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, to not only re-envision how the TV looks but also how it functions. The Bouroullec Brothers re-imagined every aspect of the modern HDTV.
Samsung announces U.S. availability of the SERIF TV
In partnership with designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and the MoMA Design Store, Samsung introduces the SERIF TV to the U.S.
It is just as beautiful to watch as it is to experience. From top to bottom, to inside and out, the Samsung SERIF TV sports a minimal yet solid exterior form, a refined user interface, and even a simplified remote control.
From the onset of designing the Samsung SERIF TV, we aimed to craft a modest and accessible object that fused our furniture design expertise with technology. We are thrilled to collaborate with Samsung and bring the SERIF TV to U.S. consumers.

The SERIF TV Design
The Samsung SERIF TV forms a distinct capital “I” shape in profile, drawing inspiration from the simple elegance of typography. Designed with the idea that television is a piece of furniture, rather than a flat screen bolted to your wall. The SERIF’s slim body broadens at the top to form a flat surface like a shelf.
This “I” shape enables it to be displayed in the home, either on top of a credenza or via attachable legs that transform the Samsung SERIF TV into a piece of furniture. Whether in the bedroom or den, the SERIF TV blends elegantly with its surroundings.
A Blend of Design and Technology
Despite its fresh design, the SERIF TV includes all of the features that consumers desire from a Samsung television. This Smart TV includes a quad-core processor which delivers a seamless experience when switching between apps, streaming movie, and game content, and live TV.
The 40″ television (UN40LS001AFXZA/UN40LS001CFXZA) sports a 4K UHD resolution, which provides four times the resolution of full HDTVs. Its HDR Premium technology enhances the TV picture’s color and brightness while creating a more realistic image.
Serif TV by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Samsung
French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are launching their first electronics product; a flat television for Samsung that is outlined by an I-shaped frame.
The Bouroullec Brothers, together with Samsung, developed a Smart TV menu that delivers a unique and interactive visual display experience, yet is simple and accessible like no other. An exclusive Curtain Mode interface veils content on the screen to give an abstract impression of what is happening in the background. Television viewers can still access services such as a clock, Bluetooth speakers, apps, and their photo gallery, even when Curtain Mode is active.

Stunning picture quality and crisp sound clarity are what consumers expect from Samsung. However, our research also tells us that there is a subset of consumers, largely underserved by the TV industry thus far, who care just as deeply about design and how their TV complements the aesthetics of their home environment. The Bouroullec Brothers share and embrace our vision of merging design and technology and we are pleased to introduce the SERIF TV to the U.S. market via a strategic group of retail partners in the design and furnishings world.

On Oprah’s Favorite Things List
Oprah and the editors of O, The Oprah Magazine annually compile a list of standout products released throughout the year just during every holiday shopping season. Oprah’s Favorite Things list, one of the most respected annual gift guides in the world, gives consumers access to Oprah’s trusted opinion on the year’s best products as they shop for their loved ones.
Oprah just recognized the Samsung SERIF TV for the 2016 Favorite Things list. The SERIF TV is featured for its unique design that blends harmoniously in the home, either via attachable legs that transform the TV into a piece of furniture or on top of a credenza.
With 4K UHD resolution, the Samsung SERIF TV offers an amazing picture quality. With services such as a clock, Bluetooth speakers, apps, and a photo gallery, making the television just as beautiful to watch as it is to experience.
What Others Are Saying
Not everyone has loved the SERIF as much as Oprah. Reviews have been mixed, with The Verve being undecided whether it is beautiful or ugly.
Engadget was rather impressed when they had a chance to see it themselves at a launch event in New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.
