LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2016 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced key partnerships with Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, NASA, and Dolby to offer consumers more high-quality 4K high dynamic range (HDR) content. You can experience a taste of related innovations, new content and see firsthand LG’s HDR technology in action by visiting LG’s CES booth #8204 in Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

YouTube HDR Content

LG has also teamed up with a number of major global content providers to ensure that the best streaming content is readily available for HDR viewing. Booth visitors will also be able to experience YouTube’s HDR content for the first time, demonstrated using Google’s VP9-Profile 2 codec.

Amazon HDR Content

Original HDR programs from Amazon including Red Oaks, The Man in the High Castle, Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle will be demonstrated at LG’s booth at CES.  YouTube will provide HDR playback through their TV app starting later this year.

4K Dolby Vision™ HDR footage

LG’s new 2016 OLED TVs and Super UHD TVs are designed to support the current industry-standard HDR formats such as HDR10 and Dolby Vision™. LG, Dolby and Netflix collaborated to create high-quality 4K Dolby Vision™ HDR footage from Netflix’s highly acclaimed Daredevil series for LG OLED TVs, which visitors to CES will be able to view at the LG booth. The Dolby Vision™ content takes full advantage of LG’s OLED technology to deliver brighter highlights, deeper darks, enhanced details and colors unmatched by conventional TVs for a superior TV viewing experience.


NASA and Harmonic HDR footage

To highlight yet another collaboration, the LG booth will feature a dark room designed specifically to display HDR video clips from deep space shot by NASA and produced by Harmonic, the official UHD partner of NASA. As NASA and Harmonic will show, HDR allows viewers to experience space in a way never seen before.

“The Martian” HDR-remastered

LG will also display on its HDR-enabled OLED TVs scenes from 20th Century Fox’s “The Martian”, using the Vidity video player from Western Digital. The popular movie has been HDR-remastered, making the film’s fantastic space scenes look even more spectacular.

Lastly, LG will also demonstrate an advanced HDR broadcasting technology in cooperation with Las Vegas local broadcaster. Developed by the Advanced Television Systems Committee, ATSC 3.0 standard-implemented broadcast draws on HEVC (High Efficiency Video Code), the next generation video compression technology in the United States, and advanced frequency transmission to greatly improve picture quality.
